This page covers connecting to Sinfar using Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition on Linux via Lutris. For any questions, join our Discord server for the easiest access to answers.
Lutris is an easy way to install and launch games regardless of what system they were originally designed for. In this case we are running the Windows release of Neverwinter Nights through Lutris's compatibility layer.
To get a copy of NWN Diamond Edition, we recommend buying Enhanced Edition on GOG, which also includes Diamond Edition with both necessary expansion packs. The game is regularly on sale across various platforms. These instructions assume a GOG purchase.

Installing Lutris
Lutris can be found at lutris.net. On their downloads page you can find the version for your Linux distribution. Detailed instructions for installing on a Steam Deck are also available there.
Once Lutris is installed, look for the Sources section in the left sidebar. Click GOG and then Connect, entering your GOG account credentials to log in.
This will show a list of games in your GOG library. To run Sinfar, install Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition. When prompted to choose an installation, select Diamond for Windows v1.69 — not the native Linux version.
Be sure to retrieve your unique CD Keys. For instructions on finding these in the GOG Galaxy client or on the GOG account site, see this guide.
Your copy of NWN is now installed and accessible from the Games section in Lutris. You are not done yet — continue below.
Downloads
You will need two additional downloads to play on Sinfar. You can access your NWN installation folder at any time by right-clicking Neverwinter Nights in Lutris and selecting Browse files.

Connecting
Launch the game through Lutris. At the Multiplayer menu, you will be presented with the Player Login screen. Even if you have never played NWN before, you do not need to use Create New Account — simply enter the account name you want and any password.
Click Join Internet Game. You will receive an error — Connection failed, try another Nick. Click Cancel, then select Direct Connect and enter:
nwn.sinfar.net
You can optionally include a port to connect to a specific server — nwn.sinfar.net:5121 for the main server, :5122 for the Dreaded Lands — but this is not required.
Creating a New Character
Click New Character and follow the steps. You can create as many characters as you want, so do not spend too much time on your first one. The following options can be changed freely after character creation:
- Gender
- Portrait
- Alignment
- Appearance (Customize)
- Race appearance
Only your Class, Abilities, and everything under Packages are locked in at creation. If you wish to change your class or starting abilities later, you will need to make a new character — however, you can transfer all items and gold to the new one.
