CHAT CHANNELS

Where to speak, who can hear you, and which channels are IC or OOC.

Sinfar uses all default chat channels plus several server-specific channels. Channels differ by visibility, purpose, IC/OOC status, player settings, and immersive-mode behavior.

Quick Use Guide

IC speech nearby
Use Talk, Whisper, /q, Silent, or /y.

Need staff help
Use the DM channel. DMs will reply if available.

Looking for activity
Use Action for parties, dungeon runs, resurrection requests, and adventure coordination.

General OOC talk
Use OOC, PVP, Build, or FFA depending on topic.

Public & Server Channels

Channel Who Can Use / See It Purpose Status
Shout Only DMs can use it. Everyone can see it, except players with immersive mode ON. Public DM announcements. IC / OOC
DM Everyone can use it. Only DMs can see it. Use this channel if you need a DM. If a DM is available, they will send you a tell. OOC
Event Everyone can use it. Everyone can see it except players who are busy or have immersive mode ON. Player version of Shout. Use for important events or faction recruitments. If the event was not planned more than 3 days ahead, it probably does not belong here. Do not reply in this channel; send a tell instead. IC / OOC
Action Everyone can use it. Everyone looking for an adventure can see it. Use for parties, dungeon runs, resurrection requests, and adventure coordination. Do not use Event for this. OOC
OOC Everyone can use it. Everyone looking for an OOC conversation can see it. Ask questions concerning Sinfar. Replies may be posted here, but do not get sidetracked. OOC
PVP Everyone can use it. Everyone in an arena or looking for both PvP and OOC conversation can see it. Power-gaming and PvP discussion should stay here. OOC
Sex Everyone can use it. Everyone looking for intimate role-play and OOC conversation can see it. Use for serious ERP ideas you would like to roleplay on Sinfar. OOC
Build Everyone can use it. Builders and players interested in the Aurora Toolset who are looking for OOC conversation can see it. Ask for a house builder or discuss Toolset questions. OOC
FFA Everyone can use it. Only players who set that they want to see FFA will see it. Talk about whatever you want, but do not spam or troll it voluntarily. OOC

Player List Settings

You can set what you are looking for in your player list account settings menu:

Class Radial Menu → Player Tool 1 → Settings → Player List Status / Account Settings

Other Visibility Rules
  1. Immersive mode ON: you only see tells from players in the same area.
  2. Busy status: you only see Shout and Tell messages.
  3. FFA enabled: you also see all other public channels.
  4. OOC area: you are automatically considered to be looking for an OOC conversation.

Use !WHOSPY to know if nearby players are in your /whisper, /quiet, or /silent range.

Chat Channel Use Rules

  • Pornography / NSFW Links — While Sinfar is an adult server, public chat channels and the web client are not to be used to share links for pornography or other NSFW material. Any links containing content that could violate Sinfar server rules may result in punishment. If you want opinions on NSFW portraits, ask interested players to send tells instead.
  • Group / Kink Bashing — Publicly bashing, mocking, or taunting groups of characters or various fetishes is not tolerated. There is a difference between saying you do not personally enjoy a type of RP/ERP and calling people disgusting for enjoying it.
  • Discrimination — Do not use offensive slang against any real-life group of people based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or similar traits.
  • Spam — Chat channels exist to increase communication among players. Do not rapid-fire trollish or silly messages, and do not use public channels for detailed walkthroughs of unrelated games or movies. If things become excessive, you may be reminded to ease up.
  • Event Channel Limits — One post per hour regarding a single event. One post per six hours for recruitments.
  • Role Playing — Except for channels that can be used for IC postings, such as Event, Action, or Sex, do not RP full scenes or situations through public chat channels. Find the players in-game.
  • Harassment — Do not call out players or characters negatively in public channels. Public chat is not a place for gossip.
