Solving Client or Connection Issues

CLIENT & CONNECTION ISSUES

Common fixes for crashes, missing files, connection errors, and client launch problems.

Before troubleshooting, make sure you have followed the correct setup guide and installed the required files. Many connection or crash problems come from missing haks, missing overrides, incorrect client settings, or using the wrong launcher.

Enhanced Edition: Make sure the additional override files are installed. If you crash consistently in a specific area after installing them, report the location on the Sinfar Discord.

Common Graphical Issues

Faces Have a Metallic Texture This usually means you are missing required override files. Fix: Download the required files from Hak Files. Make sure the files are placed in your <NWN>\override folder. If you use EE, these files are included in the SinfarX launcher. You should have the required override files installed before testing again.

Invisible Robes, Cloaks, or Wings

This can happen when using an older or unsupported NVIDIA graphics driver.

Fix: Update your NVIDIA driver from the official NVIDIA download page:

Social & Gameplay Issues

On the Sinfar main hub, you do not have to become involved in something you do not want. Sinfar has rules and tools for handling unwanted situations. If the available tools are not enough, report the issue to Sinfar Staff.

Side servers such as Arche Terre and Dreaded Lands may have additional rules while still following the main server rules. Non-connected side servers, such as Nexus or City Within The Walls, use Sinfar infrastructure but may have their own rules and experiences.

Direct Connect

How to Direct Connect Click Direct Connect and enter this address: nwn.sinfar.net If the server list fails, direct connect is usually the cleanest connection method.

Launch Directly Into Sinfar

You can create a shortcut that launches sinfarx.exe, skips the intro/menu flow, and connects directly to Sinfar.

Player shortcut:

+connect nwn.sinfar.net

DM Client shortcut:

-dmc +connect nwn.sinfar.net +password [insert DM password]

Add the relevant text after the path to sinfarx.exe in the shortcut properties.

Connection Error: Password Could Not Be Verified

This is usually a CD-key issue, not a password issue. If the server says it could not verify your password, the account may be tied to a different CD key than the one currently being used. Possible fixes: Find and use your previous CD key. Unlock your account from the website, if you know your website password: My Account Use a different player name that has not already been used: Character Search If you moved to a new PC or cannot access the account, contact an administrator on Discord about unlocking the account.

Connection verification error.

Server Is Not Responding / Timed Out

If your internet connection is working, the server appears to be online, and you can load https://nwn.sinfar.net, changing your client port may fix the issue. Fix: Open your NWN directory. Open nwnplayer.ini in Notepad or another text editor. Find the line beginning with Client Port=. Change the number to any value between 10000 and 65000. Save the file. Restart the game.

Booted After Choosing a Character

If you see this message:

Despite all your efforts, this doorway remains sealed behind some unknown sort of magical barrier.

The server may have detected a VPN or proxy.

Possible fixes:

• Turn off any VPN or proxy and try again.
• If this is your real IP and it is stable, contact an administrator on Discord.
• Get an approval point in game.
