CRAFTSKILLS SYSTEM

Master the five pillars of craftsmanship and create items of legend.

About Craftskills

The Craftskills system divides character crafting into five specialties, each with its own progression and purpose. Whether you gather raw materials, refine them into usable resources, craft finished goods, practice magecraft, or maintain essential trades, there is a path for every artisan on Sinfar.

Check your skill ratings with !SKILLS. Create items with !CRAFT.

Gathering

The foundation of all craftsmanship: harvesting raw materials from the world.

Skill Description
Butchering Process slain creatures for meat and hides of varying quality
Fishing Catch fish from waters; yields sardines, cod, salmon, trout, and exotic deep-sea varieties
Forestry Gather plantlife and forest materials for use in other crafts
Logging Fell trees and harvest logs in multiple wood types (Ash, Elm, Oak, Yew)
Mining Extract ore from deposits; yields Iron, Gold, Adamant, and Infernal ore
Farming Cultivate and gather farming goods for players who maintain a farm

Refining

Transform raw materials into refined resources ready for crafting.

Skill Description
Gemcutting Cut and polish raw gems (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz) into finished jewels
Smelting Smelt raw ore (Iron, Gold, Adamant, Infernal) into metal bars and ingots
Tanning Cure hides and skins into supple leather of varying grades
Weaving Spin fibres into thread, cotton into cloth, and spidersilk into fine silk
Woodworking Shape logs (Ash, Elm, Oak, Yew) into planks and finished wooden components

Crafting

Create finished goods from refined materials. These are the core trades that produce equipment and goods.

Skill Description
Armorsmithing Forge plate and mail armour from smelted metal bars
Jewellery Craft rings, amulets, and ornamental jewellery from cut gems and metal
Leatherworking Craft leather armour, belts, and leather goods from tanned leather
Tailoring Sew cloth armour and fine garments from woven cloth
Weaponsmithing Forge blades, axes, and metal weapons from smelted metal bars

Magecraft

Infuse materials with magical properties or create arcane goods through specialised knowledge.

Skill Description
Artificing Create wands, totems, staves, and other magical items
Apothecary Brew potions, salves, and alchemical compounds for healing and aid
Printing Inscribe and print scrolls, books, and written spells
Runescribing Carve and inscribe runes into items to bind magical effects

Trades

Essential services and crafts that support life and community. These skills produce everyday items and infrastructure.

Skill Description
Carpentry Build furniture, doors, and wooden structures from finished wood
Construction Erect buildings and major structural works for large-scale projects
Cooking Prepare cooked meals from raw meats and ingredients for sustenance
Farming Maintain and harvest crops for players who own a farm
Masonry Work and shape stone for buildings, walls, and stone structures
Mixology Create non-magical beverages, spirits, wines, and concotions

Using Craftskills

Check Your Skills

Type !SKILLS in-game to view your current progress in all Craftskills categories. The system will display your rating in each of the five specialties: Gathering, Refining, Crafting, Magecraft, and Trades. Use this to track your progress and identify which skills need development.

Create Items

Type !CRAFT to open the crafting interface. Select the skill category, then choose which item to create. Your success depends on your skill rating in that category — higher skill means faster crafting and better quality results. Failed attempts do not consume materials but waste time and effort.

Skill Progression

Skills improve through use. The more you craft, gather, and refine, the faster your rating increases. Each successful craft contributes experience toward your skill rating. Attempting more difficult recipes provides faster progression but carries higher risk of failure.

Skill ratings range from 0 (untrained) to 150 (true master). As you advance, progression slows — early skills come quickly, but mastery requires dedication and time.

Mastery Levels

Rank Points Bonus Description
Novice 0–24 +0 Just beginning your craft; learning the basics
Journeyman 25–49 +5 Competent practitioner; reliable in most tasks
Expert 50–99 +10 Skilled and knowledgeable; access to superior recipes
Specialist 100–149 +20 Master of your craft; rare expertise and capability
Master 150 +30 True mastery; the pinnacle of skill and knowledge

Understanding Your Skill Display

When you check your skills with !SKILLS, each skill displays in this format:

Skill Name Rank: Skill Points (+Bonus) XP Total

  • Skill Name — the name of your craft
  • Rank — your mastery level (Novice, Journeyman, Expert, Specialist, Master)
  • Skill Points — your progress within that rank (0–25 per rank)
  • Bonus — +modifier to relevant crafting outcomes (higher = better results)
  • XP Total — total experience accumulated in that skill (Skill Points × 100)

Tips for Success

  • Start with Gathering — all crafts require raw materials; build your gathering skills first
  • Specialise early — focus on one or two crafts before spreading yourself thin
  • Study the recipes — understand which materials you need before attempting difficult crafts
  • Level gathering skills in tandem — refining and crafting are only as strong as your ability to source materials
  • Save your materials — failed attempts waste resources; craft items you're likely to succeed at when learning
  • Ask experienced crafters — the Sinfar crafting community is helpful; seek advice on difficult recipes
  • Think long-term — becoming a master takes time, but the payoff is items other players will value and seek you out to commission
