This page will detail how to connect to Sinfar using the NWN Enhanced Edition. Like the standard Diamond Edition, it will list resources needed to play but also problems that may occur which are not present for Diamond Edition. Overall, using EE is not recommend when or where Diamond Edition is available, but EE will work about 95% of the time with a few fixes. First, we recommend you join our Discord server for any questions, concerns and answers.

This page will have some details specifically for using the Enhanced Edition on Windows. For the standard Diamond Edition, see Getting Started - Diamond Edition. For Diamond Edition on Linux, see Getting Started - Diamond Edition on Linux.

Connect with us
Be ready to ask questions and find friends to play with already, the best place is our Discord server.

You can also use our forum: https://forum.sinfar.net (Ask players in game or discord for the password to sign up)

There is various in-game tools and information available on https://nwn.sinfar.net

Enter the Persistent World of Sinfar
To play on the Sinfar server, you will need copy of Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition as well as the Sinfar custom launcher and hak files. This version is specifically for NWN Enhanced Edition, although Sinfar runs natively on Diamond Edition we have a custom, backwards-compatible launcher. As mentioned, there are a few problems and we'll cover as many of them as possible. EE can be purchased from various outlets but buying it from https://www.gog.com/ also comes with a bonus copy of Diamond Edition for a more stable experience for those who do not own the game already.

When connecting to the server, you will be asked to input an account name with a button to set the chosen name as default. Note that if you click the default button, you will need to edit the game .ini files to change your designated account name - if you use multiple accounts, it's best not to check the box and input the desired account name every time.
To find the Sinfar servers, use the Direct Connect option and input the server DNS URL, nwn.sinfar.net. You can optionally put in the port for specific servers, but this is not required.

Downloads
Haks
To play on Sinfar, you must also download our custom Hak Files. You can use the full download link here, or visit the hak page for individual downloads. For Enhanced Edition users, haks are installed in your Documents/Neverwinter Nights sub-folder.

Client Extender
You will also need the Sinfar Client Extender (SinfarX) (direct download link.). This is a custom launcher similar to NWNCX that exclusively adds additional functionality for the Sinfar Server. This is only for Sinfar; using it will not work on other EE servers. If you do not have the SinfarX Launcher, you will not be able to connect to the Sinfar servers even with direct connecting. The launcher must be in a separate folder inside the game install folder/bin as in the screenshot.

Overrides
To avoid many EE incompatibilities, you must also download a list of override files to revert EE changes to a variety of tileset features and allow you to create new characters. You can find those here. They must be added into the ovr folder inside the win32_8181 folder where the launcher is included.

Top Hak
For EE, you must replace the default top hak with the EE-specific one available here. This will prevent numerous crashes not possible to cover in the overrides above. Note: If you crash when clicking the Customize button during character creation, you're lacking this! Install regular haks first, then override the top hak with this one. Haks are by default found in your Documents/Neverwinter Nights/haks folder.
Overview

Kali Magnus Hammer-Smith is a red dragon known for her service in the Kingdom of Durakiss as Captain of the Royal Guard. Her history includes being afflicted by a necromantic curse that temporarily transformed her into a dracolich, later removed through a ritual at the Temple of Mystra. The effects of the curse and her recovery left lasting physical and magical alterations.

Biography
Clan Origins

Kali was born into Clan Razylym Wyr, a rare example of a red dragon clan structure. The clan was ruled by the alpha Voradonirax, who maintained dominance over several females. Offspring were forced into combat against one another, with only one surviving to adulthood. Kali survived this process and later underwent the tradition of leaving the clan to gain experience before potential reintegration.

Encounter with Morvath

While traveling, Kali encountered a village under threat from undead led by the necromancer Morvath Ge’hadoere Rehorngam. In exchange for payment, she fought to defend the settlement. During this conflict, Morvath used the curse Tsalcafa Vaerba, which began transforming Kali into a dracolich.

The Dracolich State

The curse weakened her until she fell into a coma. Her associate Jula sought aid from the mage Eternity and the war cleric Valis. Valis created a coin that required daily blood from Kali to keep her soul intact. Despite these efforts, the transformation advanced until external intervention became necessary.

Ritual of Mystra

A ritual was arranged at the Temple of Mystra. To strengthen it, Kali obtained the blood and skull of another red dragon. During the ritual, her dracolich form manifested and resisted the officiants, but the priests completed the procedure and broke the curse. The soul-brooch created by Valis was destroyed in the process.

Aftermath

Following her recovery, Kali considered herself physically altered and no longer representative of her original dragon form. She undertook a trial at a volcanic region near Mur Village to test and reshape her body through fire. The result left her scarred but stable, with lingering corruption in her draconic essence.

Personality

Kali is noted for being Chaotic Neutral. She follows her own motivations while serving as Captain of the Royal Guard in Durakiss. Sources describe her as pragmatic and focused on survival and power rather than consistent morality.

Abilities & Traits

Damaged eyesight, lacks innate dragon True Seeing

Alastor: /* Wands */

Sinfar has very specific rules when it comes to what magical power can be found on items. You will never find items with a magical power beyond what is allowed. There are also numerous Custom Weapons available from the Sinfar haks. These are added in such a way that they can still be used by Weapon Masters or with Weapon Focus feats despite no custom feats being added for them, as they will work with pre-existing feats instead. This also means you can be more versatile in your weapon choice as a weapon master, swapping between a regular spear or a short spear with a shield without losing your class bonuses.

The Enchanting Forge
The enchanting forge, located in Sinifer and other main cities, let you add magical property to crafted items. Crafted items can be bought from the travelling merchant in the emporium of Sinifer and also in other main cities.

To enchant a crafted item, you need to put a non-enchanted, crafted items in an enchanting forge and close it. A dialog will let you select the properties that you want to add, but it is restricted.

Each items can accept a certain number of PP (Property Points) and each property cost a certain number of PP. So when you will choose a property, the forge will tell you how much PP it cost and it must be equal or bellow the number of PP left that you can put on the item. This is for balance reasons.

After selecting the properties that you want, you will need to find the required components. The forge tells you what components you will need and how many of them.

Once you get the components, put them in the forge, with your crafted items and retry to add the properties. The forge should let you process and after some magical operations, your crafted item will be enchanted. Note that components inside bags are still counted normally, so you don't need to add each item individually.

Once an item has been enchanted once, it can never be modified again (except its appearance). Be sure to add all the properties you want the first time, or you will have to re-acquire the components you used for the next, proper enchantment.

Pre-Enchanted Items
There are many stores across the world that sell various items including already enchanted ones.

Those stores should never provide items as good as what the enchanting forge can produce. If you find any items that are comparable to what the forge can make, you should report it. For example, if you see an item that cast a spell that is not available for potions (see below), like ice storm, then this item is not legal.

However, custom and pre-enchanted items may have unique appearances, some of which may only be obtainable inside dungeons or from various events.

Potions
The 'Brew Potions' feat let you create potions from a limited number of spells:
The caster level of enchanted potions is fixed, depending on the spell. The dispel DC of potions is equal to 75% of your character level.

Wands
The craft wand feat lets you enchant bone wands, with all spells that can be use to brew potions plus the following ones:
Wands have a caster level equal to the caster level from which they have been enchanted. Their dispel DC is also equal to this same caster level. You can only use enchanted wands when you have the ability to cast the spell at the specific level or if you have a Use Magic Device skill of at least (3 x Spell Level + Caster Level).

Scrolls
Scrolls are like an extension to your spell book. They let you cast a spell exactly as if you were casting it from your spell book but without the need to memorize it. You must be able to cast the spell naturally to use a scroll version of the same spell.

Wands have a caster level equal to the caster level from which they have been enchanted. Their dispel DC is also equal to this same caster level. You can only use enchanted wands when you have the ability to cast the spell at the specific level or if you have a Use Magic Device skill of at least (3 x Spell Level + Caster Level).

Scrolls
Scrolls are like an extension to your spell book. They let you cast a spell exactly as if you were casting it from your spell book but without the need to memorize it. You must be able to cast the spell naturally to use a scroll version of the same spell.

Alastor:

Cat's Grace
||Bull's Strength
||Owl's Wisdom
||Fox's Cunning
||Endurance
||Eagle Splendor
||Clarity
||Ultravision
||See Invisibility
||Mage Armor
||Death Ward
||Cure and Inflict Wounds Spells
||Light
||Dispel Magic

The caster level of enchanted potions is fixed, depending on the spell. The dispel DC of potions is equal to 75% of your character level.

Wands
The craft wand feat lets you enchant bone wands, with all spells that can be use to brew potions plus the following ones:

True Seeing

Lesser Spell Breach

Endure Elements

Resist Elements

Protection From Elements

Timestop

Stoneskin

Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion

Invisibility

Negative Energy Protection
Wands have a caster level equal to the caster level from which they have been enchanted. Their dispel DC is also equal to this same caster level. You can only use enchanted wands when you have the ability to cast the spell at the specific level or if you have a Use Magic Device skill of at least (3 x Spell Level + Caster Level).

Scrolls
Scrolls are like an extension to your spell book. They let you cast a spell exactly as if you were casting it from your spell book but without the need to memorize it. You must be able to cast the spell naturally to use a scroll version of the same spell.

Overrides
To avoid many EE incompatibilities, you must also download a list of override files to revert EE changes to a variety of tileset features. You can find those here. They must be added into the ovr folder inside the win32_8181 folder where the launcher is included.

Alastor: Dev page

This page will contain methods to work with some systems on Sinfar on a technical level
The first idea for this page to exist was the lack of documentation from the original creators on Sinfar who did not leave any info on some systems so they are going to be written down here as explored and figured out respectively

Body parts

Normally in NWN body part files are named in this manner "pfa0_chest241"

But Sinfar uses an extended range of Torso and Pelvis models which have the right in the "type" part an "x" letter that sits between the type name and its underscore so the final model name looks like this "pfd0_xchest261" compared to "pfa0_chest241"

Head V2

Sinfar also uses new head models which have their own model naming standards
In the game when browsing the head models you can find categories like "Human" --> "Female" and "Female 2" from this we can construct the name of the model used by this category being "hhead_fh2_061" where "hhead" seems to be static and "fh2" indicates most likely Female Head 2 and the number 61 is the same ID as in the game used as normally
