Sinfar - A Beginners Guide

Postby Mew » Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:59 am

Welcome to Sinfar, the server with the title of being thee most advanced server currently in existence for Nwn. However with such comes a lot of knowledge players need to absorb right off the bat to get the most of their first experience on the server. This guide is a effort to help make ones first time on sinfar as easy as possible.

Haks: The files required for the servers which make up Sinfar. Sinfar is currently made up of 4 different servers. The four are,

Sinfar - Main Server
Thessir - RP Server [Not Live]
Dread Isle - PVP Server
Arche Terre - French Server

Unlike most servers, Sinfar is quite unique in that it doesn't have a single setting but several. "Sinfar" is made up of several island like worlds, each with their own lore, setting, and rules. Allowing each dev to build their own world with in sinfar for players to enjoy.

However these islands are spread out across each of the four servers. Each server also possess its own set of rules, some examples being

Sinfar - Sinfar is more "light" casual social rp, where if you dislike something you can choose the option "This never happened" and you can continue on your way. Generally you can do just about what ever you wish with no consequence.

Thessir - Not live yet.

Dread Isle - This server is much like the main sinfar server with the only difference being, the pvp consent system is disabled for the entire server allowing for pvp at any time for what ever reason.

Arche Terre -As above, it is easy to guess the purpose of this server. It is aimed at those who speak/read french.

A common error when joining sinfar is that players fail to download all the haks for all the servers. in addition to the main server haks, if you scroll down lower you will find the haks for the other servers.

Sinfar Haks: http://www.sinfar.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3#p3
Island Haks: http://www.sinfar.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3#p1160

Before you hop in game, there are some valuable bits of information to know before hand.

What is Sinfar?
Sinfar is an immersive roleplay, adventure and social server with an 18 certificate attached to it. This means that you can expect to see sexual type encounters and other adult material being roleplayed openly. Along with other material of a graphic nature.

What is Sinfar About?
Sinfar is about having fun. We provide an environment for you to freely roleplay your characters as you wish to. There are no race restrictions, what you create as a character and how you roleplay them is entirely up to you. Our single guiding precept is to provide fun for our players and not to restrict them unless a players actions should infringe upon others fun. However players do need to respect the rules of the server they are on. Please refer above to the server types.

OOC Rules:

The traffic light system works on the basis of SSC (safe and sane conduct) A player is entitled to list their lights in their bios and on the forums. These WILL be respected by players; intentional violation of the light system can result in a instantaneous ban for a variable length of time or even permanently.

The light system can be used to effectively detail what you, as a player; enjoy/don't care for.

This however has limits, such being you can't red light a player/character, staff, PVP, IC repercussions, etc. The light system applies directly and specifically to adult themed situations, and cannot be used to report a player unless it is a direct violation of unwanted adult theme.

Examples of adult themed situations include: Rape, any intercourse in general, dislike of certain genders, sexual torture; things of this nature.

RED Lights - These are things that the player wishes to have no part of in their roleplay.

YELLOW Lights - These are things that may or may not make the player uncomfortable depending upon their mood at the time.

GREEN Lights - Things that tend to be universally enjoyed by the player.

Staff Information

Our staff are a friendly and inclusive bunch of hard working people. Below is a list of the current staff members and an idea of what they tend to get up. Please bear in mind that our staff are also players and do no always appreciate being disturbed if they are playing. If in doubt a short polite nudge in their direction is usually acceptable.

Your Rights!

As a participant of the Sinfar social setting you as a player have rights.
- You have the right to privacy in your own player home.
- You have the right to ignore party invites, shouts, tells and general ooc chatter.

There is a number of Staff and Builders who have access to DM powers or abilities that allow them limited powers, the following are considered against the rules,
- DM or Wand enabled players are not allowed to use that wand for personal use, ooc or ic.
- DM or Wand enabled players are not allowed inside your personal home without express consent from you the owner of said home.
- DM or Wand enabled players are not allowed to port you from your home without your consent.
- DM or Wand enabled players are not allowed to create items and give them to other players, unless this is granted in/through a forum request.
- DM or Wand enabled players are not allowed to keep gold for exterior build projects, the gold must be DELETED immediately [Example, adding a bench outside, changing sign name, etc]. They may charge and keep gold for interior home designs however.

THE PvP RULE

- Repeated requests for PvP at any one time might constitute harassment. [A DM will judge this case by case to determine if it is indeed "harassment" or if the apposing side has a valid reason try and initiate such]

- The PvP Rules do not give a character/player the right to keep taunting someone, knowing they are untouchable due the PvP Consent System/Rules. If someone abuses the PvP Rules/Consent System to avoid IC repercussions, you are allowed to override PvP consent by multiple people in the same party hostiling the one in question. But be sure to take screenshots of the RP leading up to it.

- By including yourself in a DM managed event or plot you recognize the fact that you are open to potential PvP. You still have the rights to your traffic lights and even the DMs MUST respect those.

- Assassin characters, who have been employed to target another character are required to give their target a fair OOC warning before attacking, to get consent for PvP. They -may- request that a DM gain the permission from the other player, as to protect their IC identity. The same courtesy must be provided for any stealth-attacks, where the target-player is not aware of the pending situation already. If you are the target of an assassination and asked for permission OOCly prior to the attack, we ask that you do not metagame the information and immediately buff up, as the warning is an OOC courtesy.

- If you pick a fight in open public places, or attack someone, you are forfeiting all consent for hostile actions to anyone that may decide to stand in for the individual(s) you are attacking. Again, don't pick a fight if you're not ready to deal with the consequences.
User avatar

- Transition Hopping, this is where you move back and forth between transitions or abuse transitions to gain a advantage in pvp.

- Resized Forms, Using any skin smaller then a halfling in pvp is -ILLEGAL-. If you are caught doing this you will be banned. If caught readily your character will be deleted. This will not be tolerated in any way, shape or form. Being "unaware" of the rule will not be a excuse.

Server Rules

- NO PEDOPHILIA - Breaking this rule grants an instantaneous life ban.

- CHILD CHARACTERS or NPC's - Because of our environment and to prevent complications, NO child representation is welcome on Sinfar.

- CLONING - You may only have ONE active version of a character in your vault at any one time. Switching between several versions of the same character is against the rules. Those caught doing so will have the characters in question deleted.

- HARASSMENT - Through tells, party chat or any other form of OOC griefing is not welcome on Sinfar.

- SCAT/TOILET PLAY - These cannot take place on any level - IC or OOC in a public place. If you absolutely must participate in things of this nature, take it to a private location.

- PERMAKILLING - Only you, the player, have the right to say when your character should (if ever) be permakilled. It cannot be enforced upon you by another player. There are exceptions to this when a particular character has become a known villain, and does something to warrant such a fate. This can only be done by a DM, and through events. In such a case
the character destroyed will be replaced by a character of equal level for free.

- CHARACTER REMAKES - We do not do XP transfers. So if you mucked up your level one stats, you'll have to re-roll yourself. [Items can be transferred via bank]

- FOUL LANGUAGE USE - While it is completely fine to curse and use all sorts of curses in character, using such to berate other players and staff will not be tolerated. If a DM feels it needed, players can be banned up to seven days. The "N-word" for racism is completely banned, and that all real-world racist terms are used at the players risk, and could be considered player harassment. (We encourage them not to be used at all).

- ILLEGAL NAMES- Using the name of someone famous, fictional or in reality is against the rules. Players may use parts of a famous name, as long as they are combined with another name. [Ex. Harold Washington, Annabell Lincoln, etc]. The staff reserves the right to exercise their own discretion when it comes to all names though. Those asked to change their name will be given a allotted time to do so, Failure will result in deletion of character.

- Staff Account Name - Account names starting with "DM" are illegal. Anyone using them will be asked to change such. This is for active staff members only.

- Mommy/Daddying Staff - Players who are found going to different staff members with the same issue because one staff member told them 'no' is against the rules. You are not to go to different DM's if one DM tells you no on an issue, trying to get a yes from someone else. Doing this will result in an immediate suspension.

- Dominated Monsters - Using dominated monsters from a area to engage in pvp, dragging them to other areas to release or use to attack other people is absolutely not allowed in any way or form. Anyone caught doing such will have their character deleted and be issued a week long ban. Players may dominate monsters to engage in pve in their respective areas, however that is all.

Forum Rules

The Guidelines of this Forum

By using this forum you agree to abide by the guidelines below. We operate a censorship over punishment plan but worst case offenders will be subject to the three strikes rule and then receive a forum ban of variable length depending on the offences.
The forum is privately owned and considered 18+, but this does not mean that you can swear every other word or post material of a blatantly hardcore pornographic (real people, not cartoon like stuff) nature. We expect that the users of this forum will conduct themselves as well behaved adults.

None of the Following please...
- Pictures of children in any sense (as they are not of age to give permission for their image to be used)
- Baiting (a hostile post whose sole purpose is designed to illicit a negative/hostile reaction)
- Discrimination or Marginalisaion of Groups (and this goes for any group of people)
- Flaming (similar to baiting but tends to use direct insults to a person or group)
- Racial Hatred (colour or ethnicity)
- Religious Hatred (as stated)
- Trolling (being an arse just because you can be)
- Xenophobia (anyone that is different or plays different characters to your own)
- Specific Incidents Rule (see below)
No specific incidents. If there has been an issue with a player, faction, staff member then logs and screenshots should be sent to someone in the DM or Administration team. Details of which can be found here… viewtopic.php?f=2&t=752. Please remember that we are talking about OOC comments and actions here. Any of these found in the open forums will be removed and placed in the DM forums for consultation and the OP will be notified via PM.
- No posting of private conversations and/or chatlogs without prior consent from all parties involved.

General Forum Conduct

Please remember to post in a civil fashion. You are free to air your grievances, concerns and issues but do in the correct manner and follows the guidelines above. We have a wonderfully in depth language that we can use to express ourselves and does not require a whole paragraph full of flaming and rude language to get your point across.
The OP of any thread has the right to request a lock of their own topic at any time and will be provided by any of the team as soon as they become aware of it.
Complaints with regards to the useage of this forum can be directed to Mavrixo, if you have issue with how your post has been edited or removed speak to the moderator or admin who removed it, if you cannot find common ground there then speak to Mavrixo and file a complaint.

My Thread was Locked/Removed/Censored...

Chances are you will have received a note via PM or near the edited post itself of who and or why it was changed, you can speak to that person to argue your case or complain to Mavrixo (forums owner).
What you can expect as a user of the forum is to be made aware if a post was out of line (via PM or post). You can expect a right of discussion and a right of appeal to higher authority if your complaints are not met with satisfactorily.

We hope that you continue to use these forums and gain enjoyment from them. Will see you out there!

Sinfar allows you to buy and control "player homes". These are for sale all over the servers and in just about every area. To buy a home, do the following steps.

* Go to the island you wish to buy a home on.
* Find the Realtor.
* Purchase the home for the set amount of gold.
* You will receive a home contract.

Now this is where it will get a bit more tricky, you will need to use "Toolset" to make your home or find someone who is able to do such for you. Which is often not to hard since there are many avid builders out there who love to do such.

Some useful sights for player housing are,

Where you upload your home: http://nwn.sinfar.net/phouses_submit.php
Scripts for your home: http://nwn.sinfar.net/houses_scriptlist.php

You will be required to pay rent bi-weekly. Do keep in mind you must be on the server where your home is located to pay rent.
Rent is calculated as 20000 + 300 per total tile in the house.

Portraits

* You are able to upload your portrait directly to the sinfar portrait collection for other players to download.

Here is how to make a portrait for your char,

* Place a .JPG into your "/portraits/" directory where you installed NWN (i.e. C:\NeverwinterNights\portraits\Mypic.jpg). If there isn't a folder called portraits, create one.

*Start NWN and either start a new game or load a saved one.

*Start the console by hitting the tilde key ("~")in the upper left hand corner.

*Type "Conv" and then Tab which will auto complete the command "ConvertPortrait" (remember, commands are CaSe SeNsItIvE)

*Add to that the name of your image. For example "Mypic", don't add the extension

*This will automatically create all the different files needed. Zip it up and share it with the community, you're done.

Once you have made a portrait add it here: http://nwn.sinfar.net/portraits.php

You can view Neverwinters Night Default Portraits here: http://arelith.com/tools/portraits.html (these are the monster/npc/etc portraits)

Requests: http://www.sinfar.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=59

* Wildshape/Skin Requests - These are not exclusively for shifers. They are open up to everyone. This allows you to better play what ever race you wish. Such as a werewolf, vampire, demon, devil, etc. These however do not give any form of stat change. You are also allowed to change the the "look" of your beginning race. Such as if you made a "orc" because its stats suited your race, but needed to look more like a elf we can change your appearance into that of dynamic elf.

Dynamic = Any of the original starting races, which allow for head change, color change, equitable weapons/armor, etc.

* Companions and Familiars - We do have a system in place which allows us to change the look of your companion/familiar, their portrait and even their bio. Unfortunately we have not added in the ability to change their voice sets.

* Mounts - While a large number of mounts are sold in game, some are still not available, and thus the ability to request one not provided. Currently the list is slightly outdated and does not include many of the newer ones. This is partially due to the fact none have had time to make such and the fact many of the new ones are slightly broken in their walking animation.

* Pets - You can request just about anything as a pet, however you should keep in mind pets are -purely- for rp. They are never higher then level 1 or have more then usually 10hp

Character Crafting

* Sinfar offers several unique systems for creating your char.

V2 Heads

* In an effort to better serve the community we now have a system in place which allows you to choose any head from any race or gender. As well as the ability to dye it separately from the body. And to color each detail for most heads. To access these heads do the following,

- Click Body Model

- Click "2. Modify the model's appearance."

- Click "3. Body Parts."

- Click "1. Head. (New)"

- Click "3. Change appearance."

From here you can browse all the heads of every race. However because of this system it sometimes causes some heads of races to be to low, to high, to far forward. You are still able to use the "old" heads as well if you like.

Having Multiple Skins/Shapes/Forms

* If you wish to have multiple forms or skins created by the body model all you have to do is the following,

- Press/Click "F1", the first slot on your quick slot bar, "R" or the rest button. This should bring up your "Player Tool"

- Click "4. [Quick Appearance Change]"

- Click "1. [Body.]

- Click "2. Save my current body appearance."

You then type in a "Name" for that skin, this is the same system in which a dm would apply a requested skin onto you. To change between your forms simply follow the steps above and choose "1. [All]" instead of "2. Save my current body appearance.". Or speak the command "!body:Name_Of_Skin" for a quicker change.

If you require some additive features, such as horns, ears, veil, hat, glasses you can do the following,

- Press/Click "F1", the first slot on your quick slot bar, "R" or the rest button. This should bring up your "Player Tool"

- Click "4. [Quick Appearance Change]"

- Click "3. [Head Accessory]

These will all stick when you save a skin with them. So make sure they are applied or removed before saving a skin.

Changing your chat colors:

In order to do this you must edit your nwnplayer.ini file.

This file is also located in your nwn directory (default on most comps is: C:/neverwinternights/nwn/ )

STEP 1: Copy the file so you have a back up.
STEP2: Open the file in Notepad
STEP3: Locate the line that says “[Chat Colors] ”
STEP4: Add or edit the following lines

TalkColor=240,240,240
ShoutColor=255,239,80
WhisperColor=128,128,128
TellColor=32,255,32
ServerColor=176,176,176
PartyColor=255,102,1
DMColor=16,223,255

STEP5: Save and restart the game.

Explanation of colors:

The colors in NWN are stored in the RGB format (as opposed to hex). So...
240,240,240 = Amount of Red, Amount of Green, Amount of Blue (RGB) to mix and make the colors.
These numbers can be between 0 and 255. 0=White (or no color) and 255= black.
Ie 0,0,0 = white, 255,255,255 = black, 255,0,0 = red.

A Link to some RGB colors:
Where the ##,##,## are you need to type in RGB color codes. Which you can find at the following site:

http://web.njit.edu/~kevin/rgb.txt.html
